"I Can't Mommy, It Hurts"

Since the introduction of solids, we've experienced a rainbow of poopy diapers. Carrots give an extra orange hue, while peas & green beans, well, equals green poo. Initially, Avery had not been a big fan of the fruits, banana especially, but yesterday I left her at daycare with a 2.5 oz tub of Gerber bananas for lunch, thinking that since some time had passed since her first taste, that she might take to them now.

Well, according to her "Lambie" teacher (all the daycare age-groups have cute little pet-names), she ate almost the entire thing. She also ate rice cereal. We had no idea what lay ahead of us that evening.
According to my trusty Dr. Sears bible, rice cereal and bananas are the two main foods that cause constipation in babies starting solids and Avery hadn't poo'd all day. We waited and waited for her graceful (NOT!) grunting. But nothing. Her last meal of the night was a tablespoon of prunes (which surprisingly, she liked!).

She went to bed at her normal time (8 p.m.) and two hours later the night really got started. Our happy baby was inconsolable. She'd grunt and she'd cry but there was no poo. We'd get her back to sleep and she'd wake up 30 minutes to an hour later...grunt, cry, no poo. Her longest stretch of sleep was from 2:00 to 4:00 a.m., when she ate and went back to sleep until 6:20 a.m.

As I changed and readied her for daycare we had a little squirt. Today, she was sent to daycare with more prunes and carrots. Hopefully the extra fiber works. Otherwise, drastic measures may be necessary to get this kid regular again.

Oh, the poor uncomfortable girl! (and her poor parents, too!) Hope the prunes and carrots do the trick!

    We got poop!

Evidently, the carrots & prunes worked b/c she had BLOWOUT at daycare just as I was arriving to pick her up.

She's our happy baby again! :-D

Tori took good 4 months to really get her tummy used to the solids. We had a lot issues with constipation, I am not sure if I have mentioned it to you. One thing that should be last resort but always handy is glycerin suppositories (spelling?). If at night she is very uncomfortable you can use one and it makes them go easy and fairly fast, so they feel better. One rule is not to overdo it (no more then 3-4 per week).
    I hope she gets better.
P.S. Victoria still hates bananas and all fruits. How funny they are so alike :)
