Well, what we thought was just a cold turns out to be something a little more serious. Avery's cough and congestion got progressively worse, so much so that she lost her voice and was very hoarse. So we took her to the pediatrician yesterday where she was tested & diagnosed with RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus).
It was most likely contracted at day care where there were two other reported cases of RSV. It can also lead to pneumonia, bronchitis or ear infection, which can be treated, but otherwise, there's nothing we can really do but wait it out. Jimmy's at home with her the rest of the week (since I just started my new job and can't be at home with her) and they go back to the pediatrician today to check her oxygen levels. If they've dropped, she'll be put on oxygen for a week. Worst case, she'll be admitted to the hospital.
We think (mostly hope) she's doing better. She did sleep a lot better last night thanks to the infant Tylenol for the sore throat we presume she has. I guess things aren't that bad considering that she'd gone her first six months without getting sick and that this is something very common among infants.
I'll keep you posted.
