A Few Hours of Fun

In an effort to have regular quality adult time, we made arrangements with Avery's caretaker, "Sarah", to exchange babysitting responsibilities. Each week, we'd watch her son Elijah, either Friday or Saturday, and she'd do the same for us on the other day. She sweetened the deal for us when she offered to watch Avery overnight. We consider "Sarah" to be more than just the "daycare lady", she's our friend, and we know that Avery is in good hands.

Elijah was with us on Friday and the four of use went to dinner, then the Chandler YMCA's Trunk or Treat event. There were decorated trunks w/ candy-givers, bounce houses for every age group, food, carnival games and music. All the kids were in costumes and it was a beautiful and warm night. Avery & Elijah were SOOooOO ADORABLE in their costumes. Good times!

Well, this weekend happened to be the weekend that was to be our overnighter. "Sarah" picked up Avery around 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, and it was the strangest feeling EVER. The house was noticeably quieter and I immediately missed my baby. Conversely, we were excited about having "we" time and had plans to attend a halloween party that evening with sweet costumes to boot.
We made it to the party at 6:00 p.m., had an adult beverage and appetizers and said our goodbyes around 7:30 p.m. We'd planned to stop for another beverage in Tempe before heading to our next party that evening. Well, as luck would have it, we get a call from "Sarah" at 9:20 p.m. telling us that Avery was sick; vomiting several times since about 5:30 p.m. Initially, she thought the first reversal was a fluke, but the 2nd and 3rd, a few hours later, but within minutes of each other, led her to believe otherwise.
Needless to say, our evening alone was shortened significantly and obviously, the overnight part was out of the question. Thankfully, we hadn't gotten too crazy with the drinks. At least we were able to get dressed up and have a part of the evening before calling it a night.

Once home, Avery was fine that night and seemed like herself Sunday morning. She was thirsty (definitely a good sign) and ready to eat. She ate a huge breakfast, then proceeded to give it all back on the car-ride home. Note: She doesn't spit up anymore, it's full-on gross, now. After that, she was fine the rest of the day, lots of water and pedialyte, and not much interest in food.

We're going to try to reschedule with "Sarah", but we're thinking overnighters might be out of the questions, until at least, say, college.
