21st Birthday

Well, not really, of course. But, Avery is 21-months old today. Creepin' closer and closer to the big number 2! It sounds much less significant than saying, you know, creepin that much closer to the big 3-0. But it's still significant nonetheless. She's becoming such a big girl.
The last two days were true signs of her coming of age (well, as much as an almost two year-old can). The other evening, after disrobing herself from the waist down, she was having such a great time running around bottomless. She was running laps through the house when we heard the unmistakeable sound of a baby-down and the subsequent wail. Momma comes-a-running to find Avery on her back. Seems she squatted down and piddled on the tile before slipping in it. Good thing it was near the bathroom and just before bath time.
Last night, Avery told us she had to 'pee pee potty'. Which, more often than not, means she just wants to sit on her potty and pretend to wipe herself. But lo and behold, after we put her on the potty, she did actually 'pee pee potty'. We've had success with 'poo poo potty', but this was a first for the 'pee pee potty'. Mommy and daddy were so proud and impressed.
Impressed? Yes, because we believe she has more bladder control and knows when she needs to use the bathroom. Don't get me wrong, we still have wet diapers. But the stripping off the clothes and the diaper and actually using her words to communicate what she wants or needs amazes us. We hope (but aren't overly optimistic) that she'll be potty trained by her 2nd birthday. It's a long shot, but we can hope right?

That sounds great! Victoria was in that phase at around 18-20 months of age and then stopped telling us anything. She is now doing better than ever. She tells us at least 2-3 times a day that she needs to go and actually goes but it is still a long shot before we stop buying diapers. I am being patient and since she hates being dirty, I am sure that she will be telling us more and more. What a journey!
