Swimming Lessons...FINALLY!

Yep, we've finally done it. We've finally enrolled Avery in swimming lessons.

Our original plan was to do it shortly after moving into the new house and getting private or group lessons with her friends in our pool. And while you can't really put a price on swim safety, especially when you have your own pool, private lessons are an expensive endeavor. So, for the time being we rationalized that 'Hey, at least our pool is gated and no kid swims unsupervised."
Alas, a year and a half later we're doing it.

In our search to find lessons, Jimmy found an indoor, swim school VERY close to our house that opened last week. They were offering free first lessons and grading to determine at which level your child should be placed should you choose to enroll him/her.

Just telling Avery that she was going swimming immediately excited her. There are a wide range of classes offered based on age and comfort level, and Avery is enrolled as a Minnow since she's already pretty comfortable in the water. The groups are small and she'll be taught the basic fundamentals (kicking, etc.). The beauty is, neither Mom nor Dad have to go in with her; we're able to watch from behind the glass in comfortable chairs.

I did go poolside to snap a few pics. And only got this one before the camera lens started to fog over. Here they are learning the rules...listen, no splashing and have fun!

Sporting her new Hello Kitty swim suit. Of course.

Avery didn't much like putting her face too near the water.

Kicking exercises on a cool floatie - notice the whale one in the back.

Sad she had to get out.

And excited again when we told her she got to come back.
