I'd like to report the weekly news from a residential household in a Phoenix, AZ suburb.
"It's amazing to watch a little person become so daring, outgoing, stubborn, determined and outspoken," stated the mother of Avery, an 18 month old girl residing in Ahwatukee. And it all started on Tuesday.
Tuesday evening, the Magee family decided to go for an evening walk near their home, so husband and father, Jimmy, could get his hair cut. They walked about half a mile from their home to a local barber shop on this warm Arizona evening. Avery rode blissfully in her stroller, jabbering away as most toddlers do. Once they got to the shop, she curiously walked around exploring, but was very apprehensive due to the strange buzzing noises.
Once done, they walked out of the shop to return Avery to her stroller. But, nooo, she wasn't havin' it. She wanted to walk. And walk she did. Her tiny little legs walked almost the entire way home. Almost half a mile!! Her parents were amazed and impressed.
In other news....manners. With some provocation, Avery was encouraged to say please when she wanted something, but recently, she'd been asked to say 'thank you'. Thursday morning, after Jimmy had prepared Avery's breakfast, she asked for 'hep' getting her eggs on her fork. After her father completed her request, she said 'tank you' and completely floored her father. Avery's mother Doreen, immediately flashed a surprised smile and both parents were made very happy. It would seem that Avery now replies 'tank you' to all assistance she receives, without any encouraging words to do so.
This weekend, Avery's mother's college roommate Kara came to visit while her (Avery's) father was out of town. And while it took about 10 hours, Avery eventually warmed up and let Kara hold her. Fun was had and cake was made.
Avery's new favorite words...nooOOoo, tank you, hair, cake (ha!), oh boy, hi honey & woo-hoo.
That the latest news from Phoenix, AZ. Until next week's report. Have a good week!

After her bath, she climbed into the rocker (all by herself) and proceeded to read the book that was sitting in it. We've definitely got a climber! She's tried to climb into the dishwasher, onto the fireplace, into the tub...you name it!

Mom...I need a trim.
