The Long Weekend

We had a great 4th of July weekend! In large part because it was very low key and relaxed. Granted, all things are pretty low key when it's 110 degrees outside.

FRIDAY

We'd learned of a kids activity that was taking place at a local park on the morning of the 4th. From 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., there were sno-cones, hot dogs, music, games and water fun. We decided to give it a go, but only lasted 15 minutes. It was just too darn HOT! Avery was a little overwhelmed by all the activity and presumably the heat (based on her flushed face), so we grabbed a sno cone and headed back to the nice and cool, air-conditioned car. We instead headed to the grocery store to pick up some BBQ fixin's for dinner, then went out for an early lunch.

One of few pictures where I think Avery actually looked like me when I was a tot.

Bug eyes.

What you like to discover when things have suddenly gone quiet in the other room.

Avery's most recent gift from Grandpa Jim. She's still a little wary of the trike, but she LOVES the bell.

SATURDAY

On Saturday, Daddy played golf, while Mommy and Avery got in some quality time. We snuggled in bed, ate cheesy eggs for breakfast, and chased each other through-out the house. We sang songs, read books, went shopping and chased each other some more through Target. Simple pleasures.

Hi there

At Target, they have these little music machines that play music from CDs you can listen to before buying. More often than not it sounds like elevator music. However, Avery was instantly captivated by the music machine and proceeded to start dancing. Here you'll see the fastest twirl in the world, just before giving chase. Weeeeeeee.

And because it was so warm, Avery got some pool time. We're still working on getting that house w/ a pool, but we heard no complaints from Avery about her little pool (except for when we tried to take her out).

SUNDAY

And Sunday, we hung out with friends who do have a pool. Scott and Tracy were kind enough to let us all cool off in their pool and fed us the most amazing carnitas.

Finally brave enough to lay on the floaty.

Growling like a bear.
